WILLIAM

I had already given birth naturally and without complication to my first son but somehow felt unfulfilled and still a bit scared after the birth process. When I found out I was expecting my second child, I began looking for support with managing the birth process both mentally and physically. Alice provided us with the love, support and hypnobirthing tools necessary to help create an empowering birthing experience. She was nurturing and quietly supportive throughout the whole process. We welcomed our son Will to the world after five hours of labor, most of them spent relaxing at home. He arrived fifteen minutes after arriving at the birth center! Alice knew just what to do and when to do it and her presence was calming to both of us. We could not have asked for a better birthing experience. She has an incredible positive energy, knows so many tips and tricks on how to make the labor a breeze J, and is able to direct all involved in the right direction at the right time. She knew when to go to the Birthing center, when to call the midwifes, when to offer something cold, when to make sure nobody is hungry or thirsty and when the mother needed a moment of silence. She helped us connect as a couple even during the most intense part of the labor and we are really grateful to Alice for the support she provided us in having a drug-free delivery. My husband and I are so grateful that we had Alice by our side as we prepared for and welcomed the birth of our son.  Her calm and steady presence enabled us to approach the entire experience with a sense of confidence and comfort.  It was a true blessing to know we had an expert who was there just for us.  We could relax and fully be there for one another knowing that our intentions and preferences about our birth process would be held in such capable hands.  We did not know how invaluable this aspect would be until labor began.  The teamwork that took place in the labor and delivery room between Alice, my husband, myself, and our son was truly other-worldly.  The entire journey was full of divine awareness and a conscious acceptance of the natural unfolding of the birth process.  We have to thank Alice for that. WILL

I had known that I wanted an un-medicated childbirth for quite a while, but didn’t realize the extent to which I needed to prepare for it. My two oldest sisters had each experienced both natural and medicated births and preferred natural. I assumed with that being their preference, it must be “no sweat.” I couldn’t have been more wrong. Thankfully I had Alice. She provided information and made several visits prior to the day and was very attentive and patient even during the 10 days after my due date came and went. When the day finally came I was so grateful to know I had her. She spent the day laboring with my husband and I, and even took a walk with us capturing a few photos of us along the way. Once we went to the hospital she was extremely helpful in suggesting positions and helping to take the pressure off of my lower half. She was both soothing and attentive…a great part of the team the helped deliver a VERY difficult baby. My hope is that she will be available for my 2nd child’s birth and we will attempt to experience a natural birth again. L.B.

Alice provided wonderful support throughout the birthing process. She encouraged me to position myself comfortably, and she spoke to me to relax me.  Perhaps most importantly, Alice provided key advice -- 
simply to walk around to advance labor.  This excellent advice likely prevented hours of unnecessary labor and enabled a beautiful and completely natural (drug-free) birth preceded by a short labor. S.S.

My husband and I were excitedly expecting our first baby and really wanted to experience the natural childbirth process.  
We attended the HypnoBirthing classes given by Alice McNulty who is also an experienced doula.  The classes were informal but informative! After attending a childbirth class at our hospital which included a videotaped birth that was scary to say the least, we were a bit frightened.  Alice immediately put us at ease with her nurturing nature as well as the thorough information and birth plan she provided.  The videotapes of the HypnoBirths that we viewed quelled our nerves and portrayed birth as the beautiful process it is.  We definitely enjoyed practicing the relaxation techniques and felt well prepared for the many issues that can arise. 
 
When the moment arrived, my surges came very close together and I dilated very quickly but I was able to maintain calm and relaxed--even though my husband, a pilot, had to fly in from Canada to get to the hospital!  I experienced back labor and pushed for a very long time but was able to get through it with my husband, mom, doula (Alice!), and HypnoBirthing techniques.  I gave birth naturally to our beautiful son Gordon and was able to nurse and bond with him in the delivery room.  It was a wonderful experience! "I had been taking hypnobirthing classes to prepare for my natural drug-free childbirth and felt that I was pretty well prepared. The pain of pre-labor took me by surprise -- By the 4th night (and still far from the required 4cm dilation), I was ready to give up and take whatever drugs anybody would give me...only since I couldn't be admitted anywhere, I couldn't get drugs... so my husband called around to find  a doula that could work with me at home to help me through the pre-labor stage. Alice responded almost immediately to the message my husband left on her machine and was at our house about an hour later. What a blessing! Alice was wonderful: professional, flexible, non-intrusive, making suggestions gently and seeming to know exactly when I needed a little prodding and encouragement and when I needed to be left alone. An added bonus was that Alice is a trained hypnobirthing instructor and could guide me in all the breathing and relaxation techniques that I had practiced . Alice stayed all day, all night, and accompanied me to the birthing center/hospital the next day when I was finally admitted. She was there for me, again helping me breathe through surges, and doing all sorts of little things to make me more comfortable during the birthing process. When my husband left the delivery room to be with our new baby that needed some special care, Alice stayed with me and made sure I was comfortable and well taken care of. It was great to have her as a birthing companion and while I never thought I needed a doula, I definitely could not have done this natural childbirth without Alice. Thanks so much!!"   C.H.
